Samsung sold 20 million Galaxy S8 duo in 1st 15 weeks of release

While undoubtedly popular thanks to its beautiful “Infinity” display, charming design, competent camera and hard-to-rival processing power, not to mention very aggressive marketing, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ were very successful for Samsung. Samsung recently addressed rumors that the Galaxy S8 was lagging the Galaxy S7 in sales. The company said that this wasn’t true and that its new flagship continued to outsell its predecessor. Well, all the confusions are now being cleared. According to market research firm Strategy Analytics, Samsung achieved the milestone to selling 20 million Galaxy S8 and S8+ flagships in July. In another word, the tech giant has shipped an average of 278,800 units per day since the two handsets premiered on April 21.

Hinting that the popularity of the latest flagship remains undiminished, Samsung’s mobile division chief Koh Dong-jin said at a media event in Taiwan in July that the cumulative sales of the S8 is 15 percent higher than that of the preceding Galaxy S7 within three months since the March 11 release last year. Samsung will seek to maintain this momentum in the second half of this year. It will launch a new flagship smartphone, the Galaxy Note 8, to further strengthen its position.

Strategy Analytics also shows that Samsung shipped more smartphones than Apple in North America in Q2 2017. Samsung shipped 14 million smartphones and accounted for 33.3 percent of the North American smartphone market. And it’s the first time that Samsung has accounted for more than 30 percent of the market since 2014.
