Developer editions of 2 Windows Mixed Reality headset are available now

Back in May, Mircosoft announced it would be launching mixed reality headsets built for Windows 10 in 2017. Many of the 3rd party headsets were up to pre-order by then. At last, after 3 months, Microsoft is now officially selling mixed reality headsets built by Acer and HP. The headsets cost $299 and $329, respectively. Both headsets have similar specifications, which includes six degrees of freedom tracking for Microsoft’s Windows Mixed Reality world. You must be a developer in order to buy these headsets at this point.

Both the HP and Acer Windows 10 VR headsets feature two 1440 x 1440 displays, 95 degrees horizontal field of view, 90 Hz refresh rate, built-in audio and mic support, a single HDMI 2.0 and USB 3.0 cable to hook up to a Windows 10 PC, and inside-out tracking. Microsoft’s listing in its online store suggests you’ll need a PC at least with a Nvidia GTX 980 / 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 480 graphics card along with Intel Core i7 or AMD Ryzen 7 CPU and 16GB of system RAM to get a smooth operation.

Unfortunately, the HP Windows Mixed Reality Headset Developer Edition is sold out, which one is surely better designed among those two. Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo are all planning to release Windows Mixed Reality headsets later this year.
