Huawei is the number 1 smartphone seller in China for Q2 2017
According to a survey conducted by global market research firm Canalys, Huawei shipped over 23 million smartphones in China, and leads for the second quarter in a row. At the same time, domestic smartphone shipments have fallen by 3% to 113 million in the second quarter of this year after six consecutive quarters of growth. Oppo came a very close second with 21 million units, which is up 37% year on year. In third followed vivo with 16 million shipments in Q2. On the fourth place, Xiaomi with a shipment of under 15 million smartphones overtook Apple. During this period Redmi has had strong uptake in the mid-tier, going head to head with Oppo's A series and Vivo's Y series. The rest of the top ten, including Apple, Samsung and Meizu, all suffered annual shipment declines this quarter. The top five brands account for almost 75% of shipments, with the first four adding 10% to their cumulative share.
According to Canalys, the Mi company still offers the best value in the Chinese market and remains a preferred choice for price-conscious consumers. Most of the growth happened through online channels which are relatively new to Xiaomi, which was previously heavily reliant on its physical Mi Stores. Adopting a diverse channel strategy is key to success in China, as competition has intensified in online and offline channels, resulting in many vendors losing market share quickly,” said Canalys Research Analyst Hattie He.
