AMD unveils Ryzen 3 1300X and 1200: True quad-core CPUs for just $130 and $110
AMD’s Ryzen series of desktop CPUs is one step closer to being complete as today As the company has launched its entry level Ryzen 3 series of desktop processors. after Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 5. The Ryzen 3 line consists of two 4C/4T processors, the base Ryzen 3 1200 for $109, and the more powerful Ryzen 3 1300X for $129 with the primary differences between the two being clock speed and price. Both of the chips use AMD’s Zen cores, which can process 52 percent more instructions per clock than the previous generation. Zen-based processors are AMD’s most competitive chips in a decade. Consistent with the company's initial Ryzen 3 announcement, the Ryzen 3 1300X has a base speed of 3.5GHz and a boost speed of 3.7GHz, but can use AMD's XFR technology to go all the way up to 3.9GHz if the thermal envelope allows it. The Ryzen 3 1200X runs at 3.1GHz but can boost itself up to 3.4GHz on demand. Both have 65W TDP. Both processors are based on the socket AM4 platform and compatible with motherboards using X370, B350 and A320 chipsets. Both of these new processors come with one of AMD’s improved stock coolers- the Wraith Stealth.
In a press briefing, AMD said that the Ryzen 3 processors can outperform the competing Intel processors in gaming settings. The Ryzen 3 1300X can run Tom Clancy’s The Division 10 percent faster than Intel’s Core i3 7300 processor. AMD's own Cinebench results put Ryzen 3 ahead of Core i3 by as much as 29 percent. AMD claims Ryzen 3 will match Core i3 in 1080p gaming performance too, thanks to its two extra physical cores. Both processors are unlocked, allowing for full overclocking on B350 and X370 motherboards. Given some preliminary numbers for a future review, both CPUs seem to be capable of marching on towards 3.9-4.0 GHz fairly easily. AMD promotes both of the Ryzen 3 CPUs as being part of their 'VR Ready' line, compared with the premium line consisting of the Ryzen 7 parts and all but one of the Ryzen 5s.
The Ryzen 3 1300X is priced at Rs. 8,899 in India while the Ryzen 3 1200 will cost Rs. 7,599. In UK the Ryzen 3 1300X retailing for £125 and the Ryzen 3 1200 going for £105.
