AMD teases Threadripper retail packaging, going to hit stores on August 10th

The people living in the geek world eagerly awaits the debut of AMD's Threadripper processors. It will be Intel's first real high-end desktop challenge in ages because of very aggressive pricing strategy. While we have been teased for months with many details of the Threadripper series, AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su took to Twitter to unveil the processors' retail packaging. The massive packaging takes the shape of a large black box with rounded corners. Up front is a window with Ryzen and Threadripper logos plastered on it. It's surely quite unlike anything we’ve ever seen in the past. The super-size appears to be the size of a moderate mini-ITX PC.

Threadripper will come in two models initially, the 12-core/24-thread 1920X priced at $799, and a 16-core/32-thread 1950X priced at $999. There are reports that AMD will have limited quantities of Ryzen Threadripper chips at launch so you will have to be fast to book one for purchase on launch day. Intel recently announced its answer to the Threadripper platform, the X299 Core i9. However, these have significantly higher prices.

In the meantime, KitGuru reported that Threadripper CPUs would hit the market on the 10th of August, based on information from one of their reliable sources, GDM.
