Good News: Samsung going to continue Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic along with Gear S3 duo

Samsung finally took to the stage to take the wraps off the much-anticipated Gear S3 classic and Gear S3 frontier, few hours ago at IFA 2016, Berlin. While that's certainly good news for Samsung fans, what does this mean for the previous generation Gear S2? Will it be discontinued? However, their larger faces and wider bodies certainly don’t appeal to everyone, which has left many people wanting to pick up the Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic instead. When the Gear S3 Frontier and Classic are released later this year, they won't be taking store shelf space away from the Gear S2 — all four watches will sit together along with the Gear Fit 2 as important components of Samsung's wearable ecosystem.

Samsung isn’t planning on discontinuing the Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic

That's not the all. In fact, the South Korean company will be pushing out an update to both Gear S2 variants that will bring along all the new software features that the new Gear S3 smartwatch packs in. By considering that the Gear S2's hardware is more than capable even a year on, they should be able to handle the software just fine.

The Gear S2 models - understandably - are expected to receive price cuts by anywhere from $50 to $100, making then an even more attractive proposition.

With five wearables all standing together (Don't forget Gear Fit 2), Samsung is going beyond the idea of just releasing one product and iterating it each year — with different update cadences and a diverse portfolio, it can hit an even wider market. That may just be the best shot it has to grow its market share in wearables.
