New Sony PlayStation 4 releasing on September, images leaked online
We know Sony is having a PlayStation event next month on the 7th, where the company is expected to announced the update to the current PS4, the PlayStation "Neo". However, it seems Sony might have yet another console to announce that day. A redesigned PlayStation 4 with a slimmer case design have surfaced from an online auction listing. The seller provided to Polygon these unboxed images of the new PS4. The unit appears thinner and its edges are rounded, unlike the squared-off corners of the original design.
Pictures of the packaging show that this particular model has a 500 GB hard drive, and it appears to be a European model. If a slim PS4 is on the horizon, it's not yet clear whether it will offer upgraded functionality over the existing PS4 (like the Xbox One S's 4K upscaling and UHD Blu-ray player) or whether it will simply offer the same console in a smaller housing.
According to the details coming out from Wall Street Journal's Takahashi Mochizuki, PlayStation 4 Slim variant is going to take the place of standard PS4 model when it launches. No surprises here considering the fact that Sony had this same approach when Slim PS2 (at launch) replaced the standard bulky PS2 models.
