Microsoft unveils mid range Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL
Microsoft continues to solidify Windows Phone's mid-range lineup with the announcement at MWC 2015 of the Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL. The new Lumia 640 and 640 XL are the company's latest budget phones. The software maker is giving away a free version of Office 365 Personal (worth $69.99) for a year. The Lumia 640 is the successor to the popular Lumia 630, and the Lumia 640 XL replaces the larger Lumia 1320. The XL naming marks a move by Microsoft to move away from the, often confusing, numbering scheme across its range of Windows-powered Lumia smartphones.
Microsoft Lumia 640
The Microsoft Lumia 640 is bigger and has a better screen than other 6-series devices, it packs a 5" IPS display with 720p resolution (294ppi). The display enjoys Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The phone is powered by a Snapdragon 400 chipset (quad-core Cortex-A7 at 1.2GHz) with 1GB of RAM. There's also 8GB of storage, expandable with up to 128GB microSD cards.
The camera department has been upgraded too with an 8MP autofocus rear camera with a 28mm f/2.2 autofocus lens, LED flash, and support for 1080p30 video, and a 1MP front-facing camera with a wide-angle f/2.4 lens and support for 720p video.
The phone will be very flexible when it comes to connectivity with single and dual-SIM versions, plus 3G and LTE versions. There will be a dual-SIM LTE version in case you were wondering. There's a 2,500mAh battery to feed the larger screen and the advanced connectivity.
The Microsoft Lumia 640 will be available in April and will come in a variety of colors, including Cyan, Orange, Black and White. Pricing will start unlocked at around $155 for its 3G version and $177 for the LTE model.

Microsoft's new phablet is in the affordable-but-capable 6-series, instead of the 13-series. The Microsoft Lumia 640 XL improves on its smaller namesake with a 5.7" screen. The screen is an IPS LCD with 720p resolution (259ppi) with ClearBlack tech and Gorilla Glass 3 protection.
The camera got a premium upgrade courtesy of Zeiss f/2.0 lens in front of a 13MP 1/3" sensor. This one also has an LED flash. This one also has a proper selfie camera with a wide-angle 24mm lens and 5MP sensor. Both cameras record 1080p video. The camera isn't PureView branded, but this is nonetheless a big step up in capabilities.
The phablet is also powered by a Snapdragon 400 chipset wiwth aquad-core 1.2GHz processor with 1GB of RAM. You get 8GB storage out of the box and can bring up to 128GB of your own.
The 640 XL's larger screen also creates room for a larger battery; 3000mAh to the 640's 2500mAh (again comparing favorably to the 1830mAh in the 630/635).

One interesting thing is Both phones will launch Windows Phone 8.1, but Microsoft's intention is to bring them and other modern Lumias to Windows 10. If you’re interested in dual-SIM versions, then both the Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL will be available in 3G dual-SIM, and LTE single- and dual-SIM.
