Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Beta Build 7601.16543.100403-1630 Is Leaked & Available For Downloading
The news of Windows 7 Service pack 1 Beta is available to Microsoft Connect users was heard over the past few days and then everyone assumed that It was only a matter of time until someone posted a copy of a beta release build of Windows 7 Service Pack 1 publicly. The release is then spread via P2P services with no option to control or block the release from being downloaded.
The download size is 1.2 GB which includes Service Pack installers for both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7 versions. The latest leaked build of Windows 7 SP1 x86 has size of 286 MB whereas the x64 is 536 MB and it may take about 3.3 GB of disk space upon installation.. To install the SP1 beta, you need uninstall any previously installed Service Pack (we are talking about the previously leaked SP1) before installing SP1 beta.
The beta release will expire between April – July 2011. It is not clear yet if it will be possible to update from a beta Service Pack to the final release. A public beta of Windows 7 SP1 is expected to be released in July.
The leaked Windows 7 SP1 release has the build number 7601.16562.100603-1800. It was originally distributed to select beta testers but has since then founds its way to P2P sites and other distribution services.
The Windows 7 SP1 beta build 7601.16562.100603-1800 was compiled on June 3rd, 2010. As we have reported before, Windows 7 SP1 comes with only minor updates which includes all the previous updates delivered through Windows Update.
But there is another reason why users should wait with the downloading and installing: Windows 7 SP1 will not add any new features to the operating system. It is rumored that Service Pack 1 might include USB 3.0 support and enhanced Bluetooth and Wi-Fi stacks but that has not been confirmed by Microsoft yet.
A word of caution for users who think about downloading this beta SP1 release. Malicious users often use releases of popular applications to spread their malware with those releases.
